Bell Park
Dam is popular for fishing, sailing, motor boating, water skiing and bird
watching. Nearby, in the wider Central Berg area, sports lovers have the
following options: horse riding, golf, tennis, archery, putt-putt, a Saturday
Park Run, swimming and bowls, as well as hiking, cycling, motor and quad
biking, e-biking, river rafting, hot air ballooning, ziplining, canopy tours,
kloofing and mountain walking and climbing. The Spioenkop Game Reserve offers
rewarding game viewing. Other attractions are the Reptile Centre and Bird of
Prey Centre.
The
internationally acclaimed Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School presents regular
concerts on Wednesday afternoons during school terms.
Within
easy reach of Clivia Hill are the famous Ardmore Pottery Museum and several art galleries.
In addition to rock art sites
in the Champagne Valley, there are a number of notable Anglo-Boer war battle
sites in the general area, among them Spioen Kop and Ladysmith.
The
Champagne Valley has a number of quality hotels, restaurants and coffee
shops, as well as two small supermarkets, a liquor store and the superb Valley
Bakery. Five churches, a hotel, two coffee shops, two larger supermarkets, four
liquor stores, a vehicle workshop and two petrol stations can be found in
Winterton, as can doctors, a pharmacy and hairdressers. There are several
gift and clothing shops both in the Valley and Winterton.
