Amenities in the Central Berg:
Bell Park Dam is popular for fishing, sailing, motor boating, water skiing and bird watching. Nearby, in the wider Central Berg area, sports lovers have the options of horse riding, golf, tennis, swimming and bowls, as well as canopy tour, horse trails, hiking, cycling, river rafting, motor and quad biking and mountain walking and climbing. For entertainment of a different kind, the famous Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School presents regular concerts during the term and hosts the annual Music in the Mountains weekend in late April. Places of interest within easy reach are the internationally acclaimed Ardmore Pottery, the colourful Thokozisa and Cedarwood shopping centres, the Midlands Meander with its craft shops and restaurants, the Spioenkop Game Reserve, rock art sites and various Boer War battle sites, among them Spioenkop and Ladysmith. As to food and wine, the Champagne Valley offers a number of hotels, restaurants and coffee shops, as well as two small supermarkets, a liquor store and the superb Valley Bakery, while a butchery, liquor store, wine agent and larger supermarket can be found in Winterton, as can a doctor and pharmacy.
Clivia Hill seasonal specialities:
- Music in the Mountains at the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School at the end of April.
- Snow on the High Berg in winter.
- Clivia season in early spring (end of August to mid-September) when this spectacular indigenous lily is in full bloom throughout the Clivia Hill garden.
